I actually laughed out loud at this picture (and hopefully you will too).

    Keep being awesome meat-eaters!

    Keep being awesome meat-eaters!

Around campus we have a glut of bulletin boards and posting; just once I want to see something this clever!

  • What do Obama and pigs have in common?

Posted on May 1st, 2009 Seth No comments

Years ago, people said there’d be a black president when pigs flew. Well, 100 days into a black presidency, swine flu.

Complements of my very clever wife, Andrea Mire Holloway.

  • Ouch and wow all in one!

Here’s another hilarious internet video that makes you feel bad for laughing. A poor chap blocks a fierce throw-in with his face while the crowd simultaneously winces. Moral of the story: do not put your face in front of a fast-moving soccer ball.

Since videos from Today’s Big Thing aren’t embedding into Reader, here’s a similar clip from YouTube.

I did not recognize the move (which isn’t saying much) so I googled some and discovered the flip throw-in. Here’s a how-to if you’re interested.

Has anyone ever seen this done in real life? It just seems over-the-top like a rainbow kick…

  • A drumguitar?

Posted on November 17th, 2008 Seth 3 comments

I had a great weekend that was fun and productive (which is notable because it’s normally one or the other)! Today, I had a few things to post about, but I am absolutely blown away by this drumguitar:

I’m impressed with not only his skills, but the fact that he took time to learn a useless instrument. Hell, the fact that he would make that instrument impresses me that 1) he could make it 2) it would work and 3) that he would make a useless instrument.

  • The national money hole… and all it leads to

Posted on November 15th, 2008 Seth No comments

I just have to share this video! It is decently funny, but has some striking features. You know that “America needs the money hole!”

In The Know: Should The Government Stop Dumping Money Into A Giant Hole?

Like I said, kinda funny. But do you recognize the bald white guy? That’s right! He’s from the Sonic commercials!

Real name: Brian Huskey. He was on the Upright Citizens Brigade, a hilarious hit-or-miss sketch comedy show from back in the day.

And while we’re on the subject of Upright Citizen’s Brigade, here’s a clip that I saw 10 years ago and still chuckle about (without Sonic-guy):

Now you know why I’m so confident! ;-)

So that’s the national money hole and all it leads to: National Money Hole -> Brian Huskey -> Pennies

  • Terry Tate: Everything old is new again

I loved the Terry Tate Office Linebacker commercials back in the day. The hilarity continues with a new set of ads for… well, who care? It’s funny! (BTW he’s telling people to go vote.)

“Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America…”

“Our next door neighbors are foreign countries!”

If you never saw the old ones… Check it out, and remember, “You kill the joe, you make some mo’!”

  • Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals

Posted on October 20th, 2008 Seth 1 comment

Recently Marky Mark was mimicked as part of a ridiculous skit from my favorite current SNL cast member, Andy Sandberg. I missed the broadcast since I don’t have NBC, but I’ve seen the skit online. (And honestly, I probably wouldn’t have watched SNL even if I had NBC.) Check it out:

“Hey goat! I like your goatee! I had a goatee like that in A Perfect Storm. Did you ever see that movie?… Say ‘hello’ to your mother for me!”
Mark Wahlberg responded as anyone with a sense of humor should, by appearing on SNL to set the record straight. Check it out:

This episode of SNL was the highest rated in 14 years and featured Sarah Palin. She brought her folksy charm to America without adding any substance–she may be ready for politics after all.

Speaking of Mark Wahlberg; did anyone see Max Payne yet? It looks decent.

  • Religulous is worth watching

Posted on October 10th, 2008 Seth No comments

Last night we watched Religulous, Bill Maher’s documentary on religion. While not a cinematic masterpiece or textbook documentary, the movie is really funny and very entertaining. Maher is openly biased the whole time–he says openly that doubt is his product and no one really knows–but that did not take away from the experience for me.

The movie brilliantly splices in hilarious clips and displays what Maher is thinking during interviews. These additions are hardly necessary given the cast. Maher managed to find some of the most eccentric religious superheros alive today; for example he talks to a marketing genius who claims to simultaneously be the second coming of Jesus and the Antichrist. (Sadly, the fellow has over 250,000 followers.) He visits the Netherlands where religious tolerance has caused a stir recently; while there Maher also meets a chap who believes in smoking pot (and that’s about it) as well as some other interesting figures.

A few interesting points the movie made:

    • 16% of Americans claim no religious affiliation, but there is no lobby for these people
    • Religion is bigoted and unproven: If religion were a private club, it would be shut down or operate in the shadows
    • Religion has been used to kill millions of people throughout the ages
    • No one really knows

Overall, it was really funny and concludes with a meaningful point.

  • If you have a cat, you’ll appreciate this

Posted on September 19th, 2008 Seth No comments

I get a real kick out of this simple video (via Geekologie). It’s a cat is stalking its owner, very sneakily. I have not seen moves like this since Red Light Green Light in third grade!

My cat doesn’t have to be as stealthy–he has enough mass and strength to overwhelm any phantom he encounters–but the video is still really cute.

On a somewhat related note, I’m told that the kitty is actually an amazing hunter as recent animal psychology research says that prey animals scan for changes in the landscape. The cat’s ability to maintain the same posture and be completely still make it an amazing predator. If you’re interested in that idea, animals scanning their surroundings is discussed in depth in Thinking in Pictures: and Other Reports from My Life with Autism.
